Are you really ready to sail around the world?

My eBook can save you money and effort —maybe even your life!

Sailing around the world requires the right preparation.

Tintin at anchor in Moorea

Sailing around the world, or even just a little blue water cruising is a whole lot different to local cruising. The rewards are greater. But you need to be very well prepared.

Even if you’re a very experienced day sailor and cruiser, there are still a lot of things you need to be aware of to sail around the world — and to be ready for, including:

Crew • Finances • Tools • Navigation • Computers • Power • Sails • Dinghies • Outboards • Fishing • Autopilots • Pirates • Watches • Radar •  Provisioning • SSB E-mail • Instruments • Watermakers • Ciguatera poisoning • Electrical power • GPS failure • Safety and many other topics...the list is endless (please check out full contents below!).

I wrote Sail Ready

to help YOU!

Its sole purpose is to help you make sure your boat is well prepared and that you’re ready for safe,  successful and enjoyable cruising and ocean passages - maybe even that sail around the world.

Addressing each subject alphabetically, this book provides the answers to many of the questions you have. Living and cruising on a boat, whether you are sailing around the world, or just sailing down the coast, places new demands on you that living ashore does not prepare you for. This book can help you achieve that dream whether the dream is sailing around the world, sailing down the coast or just hanging about somewhere nice.

SailReady is a working manual, set out so you can print any sections you are currently working on — with extra space for notes.

About the author:

Rod Campbell-Ross recently sailed from the UK to Australia on "Tintin", a 44 aluminium sloop built in France in 1982.

Accompanied by his wife, Sue,  and 3 kids, safety and having fun were two key priorities. The refit before leaving and the journey provided the source material for this book. It contains all the things Rod wishes he had known before he started and much more. Having read everything available before starting there were still several painful and expensive lessons that could have been avoided.

Are you ready for these

typical areas of concern?

What about computers?

Most boats have computers that perform important roles in navigation, weather, communications, administration and entertainment.

Sail Ready contains an extensive, detailed section on computers for yachts.

You will learn which computer to buy, what not to buy, how to power it and how to set it up so it remains a reliable tool as you sail around the world.

Just this information alone will save you lots of trouble and money!

Bora Bora

Paying too much for

your watermaker?

Most boats have a watermaker on board. A branded 60-litre per hour model will cost about $6000.

I’ll show you how to build your own for less than half that amount!

Sail Ready contains step-by-step instructions on how to build a 160-litre per hour watermaker for about $2500 — way less than half!

What would you do if your GPS failed?

It's easy to rely on electronics, but what happens when they fail? SailReady contains a complete section on how to navigate without the benefit of a GPS, or even a sextant.

What about Ciguatera poisoning? Have you protected your boat from electrolysis? How do you install AC? What about DC power, what size genset? How many batteries? Which batteries? The list of questions can seem endless.

Sail Ready makes your voyage plain sailing!

Packed with information, Sail Ready contains many tips on sailing around the world, seamanship, safety, how to set your boat up for long term live-aboard cruising and blue water passage making.

If you want to sail around the world learn as much as you can.

Read this book.

Talk to other yachties, especially cruising yachties: people, who like the author, have been out there and done it.

Ask very specific questions: eg. ‘I am thinking about a parachute sea anchor as one of my key strategies in a storm. What do you do when it gets rough? Do you know anything about sea anchors?’

Not only can this book help save your life, it can also save you $$$ and many painful lessons the author learned the hard (and expensive) way!

It also contains lessons other yachties learnt. See below for a comprehensive list of the books contents.

Cruising has been described as yacht repairs in exotic places. This will remain true, but making the right choices before you go can help you reduce time spent on repairs to a minimum.

Hello Rod

I'm getting ready to move aboard a small yacht I have bought in the Canal du Midi, so I am busy trying to prepare for what will be a fairly steep learning curve in my retirement!   Nevertheless, now that I've read your book I consider it value for money and a must read for anyone considering setting up a 'serious' cruiser; whether it be for bluewater voyaging or for living aboard in anything other than a marina-locked houseboat.    All good, no-nonsense advice based on experience and research, one feels, rather than yacht club bar lore.

best regards

Rod,

I found your book to be as advertised. What I expect from a book like your is at least one idea that is worth the price of the book and I found several. Great idea on page 26, for anyone planning on purchasing a new boat.  Let me know when you come out with your next book.

Best regards,

Roy Fisher, March 2007

Sailing in and around Puget Sound and planning to sail further

Book Review: Sail Ready !

I bought a copy of the ebook (pdf format) Sail Ready! by Sue and Rod Campbell-Ross. The book is organized alphabetically covering a variety of topics: Abandon Ship, Boat (Choice of), Navigation, Seasickness, and Spares to name a few. Given the breadth of content and the short number of pages this is a definitely an introductory book, but a very good one at that with referrals to other books when a topic warrants it.

You can buy the ebook online at their website and then you will be able to download the PDF formatted document. You will need to write down and save the password for opening the document as well. I bought my book in September and lost the password, but via the website I was able to contact someone and get the password again in a day. I recommend you save your password in a text file in the same folder as the document itself if you don’t plan to print it out (save the trees folks).

If you are new to sailing or cruising this will be a good book to get you going and to help you figure out where you should focus your next phase of learning. Also, if you are of the mind that a K.I.S.S. mentality is the way to go and want a simple well run boat this book will support your already established opinions. If you believe in the latest electronics, watermakers, solar and wind generators this book probably isn’t going to fit in with your view of the world.
